Last Chance to Join the Coffeeneuring Challenge and a Tweetstorm

Time ticks by, but not so much time that you can’t join the Coffeeneuring Challenge. But you must start this weekend!

Between now and midnight in your area on November 17, 2013, you may successfully complete the challenge if you ride your bicycle to seven different coffee shops over the next four weekends. And I know of one person who is coffeeneuring by wheelchair due to a cycling accident, which also qualifies! 

As the rules show, you may complete two coffeeneuring rides per weekend, although only one per day qualifies as official coffeeneuring. Any additional coffee outings made on the same day are called “riding your bike to coffee.”

    Foursquare is all about checking in. You download the app, you go someplace, you check in. It gives you points and if you care, you can compete against friends to see who can rack up the most points in a week. It also gives you badges for various accomplishments (such as visiting multiple coffee shops…). You can see who else has checked in at a spot. You can leave a tip for other folks to do. You can take photos for the place. Sometimes places will have discounts if you check in, eg. you show that you have and they’ll take 10% off the bill. Or, if you’ve checked in at a place more than anyone else, you become the Mayor. Often times, such as at Pound the Hill (a coffee shop in our fair D.C.), places will give 50% off to the mayor. I did that once, it was the best tasting latte ever. That’s Foursquare in a nutshell.

      That is helpful! I did not realize that people were eligible for discounts and noticed that sometimes photos were included on the foursquare tweet and other times not. I’d seen people become mayors, but was completely clueless as to what it meant.

    I thought it was too late, and I had missed the start (again) — so I am most grateful for this reprieve! Lo, I take up the gauntlet of the Coffeeneuring Challenge 2013, and wish all my fellow Coffeeneurs success in their endeavours!

    I love this Coffeneuring Challenge, but our cyclist group in Recife, Brazil, prefer a beer after our rides. I guess somebody have to create a Beer-neuring Challenge… 😉
