Friends, it’s been an incredible coffeeneuring season! Thank you for making it all happen. As we lean into the final two days of this challenge, I thought I’d take a break from my own coffeeneuring rides to feature a few goings on around the coffeeneuring globe.
Any bike can be a coffeeneuring bike. We’ve seen a few tandems in the mix this year, great for team coffeeneuring! This scenic coffeeneuring outing to Naguri, Saitama, in Japan from Jun Sato caught my eye, as did their lovely Co-Motion.
Big bikes can be coffeeneuring bikes and smaller bikes can be, too. The Thick Bikes family in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, whose son recently began riding his own bike, rode over five miles to a local Starbucks for hot chocolate and cider. And you know that five miles on small wheels feels like more than five miles. Well done, coffeeneurs!
Yuji Hayashi, a randonneur and coffeeneur, went on a special coffeeneuring outing to recognize his recent completion of Paris-Brest-Paris. The destination was a cyclist-centric café and the reward? A Paris-Brest, of course!
Stefan Leistner Baumgardt out of Switzerland found a nice place for coffeeneuring without walls, and used his bialetti mini express to brew himself a nice cup.
AnnieBikes out of Vermont has been going to coffee shops without walls in her neighborhood and painting each mug she uses. It’s so cool! She’s also blogging her outings so be sure to check them out here.
The days may be getting shorter and cooler, but coffeeneurs are unfazed. Earlier in the season, Emma Rooks (@aspookydaisy on Insta) paired coffeeneuring with a trip to the pumpkin patch. Here she is, showing off her pumpking balancing skills.
Clara, Alyssa Lee, and Laura combined their outing with a fun night ride through the holiday light display in Wayne County, (Michigan, I think?), with replete with decorated bikes, riders in Santa suit variations, a bonfire, and snacks.
So many inspired holiday events happen this time of year. One of them is the tweed ride, the height of fall cycling elegance. Joyce and Nigel layered up and joined the Philadelphia Tweed Ride on their vintage steeds, and paired the event with a coffee shop without walls. Pinkies out!
Melanie Carroll went multi-modal for her most recent (and last official) Coffeeneuring Challenge ride, taking the train from Lincoln to Cambridge in the United Kingdom to visit family. I so wish we had mass transit like Europe.
Graham Bullman out of Bath, England, took on a waterways theme this year here is a collage of one of his scenic coffeeneuring outings.
Finally, I’m taking us back to Des Moines, Iowa, because I found this photo of a coffee outside meetup by Aaron Vance irresistible. He writes, “we keep finding Autumn in every nook and cranny of this November and I’m not complaining. I heard a Robin chirping as the sun rose and it made me hopeful that maybe Spring is already back.”
Fall makes way for winter, and we make the most of these splendid days. It’s been such a sweet time. Two days left, let’s all spin the pedals and raise our mugs to toast the transitional beauty of the coffeeneuring season.
Comments & questions welcome. Keep it civil, por favor!
