I believe the DC War Memorial is the WWI War Memorial. I remember running into it once. It was rather hidden by trees and unimpressive when compared to others. Perhaps that is a function of the times. During the Great Depression, some WWI veterans marched on Washington demanding a bonus payment promised to them. They were known as the Bonus Army. They camped out on the mall and were a real embarassment to the goverment. The last combat veteran from WWI died earlier this year. It’s a shame none of those veterns got to see a fitting memorial to their service on the nations most hallowed ground.
You missed the WWI memorial! It’s hard to find, but there is one.
