Friends of coffeeneuring, I hope you all are well. The Coffeeneuring Challenge has concluded for 2017, and submissions continue to reach Coffeeneuring Headquarters. If you have not yet submitted your rides, there is still time. Patches will be ordered after November 30 – I will then have a better sense of the overall number to order – and I plan to send them out mid-December … Continue reading Coffeeneuring Bandana: Sold Out!
One of the kerpillion things I love about coffeeneuring is the virtual journey I go on through people’s submissions. Some people send snapshot summaries, while other write-ups read like a travel journal. John, who rides in the areas on the Virginia Peninsula is one of the latter. He not only shows us around his neighborhood, but shares his coffee and brewing methods used during his … Continue reading Coffeeneuring Rewind with John: Coffee Outside and Meanders along the Chesapeake Bay
I almost didn’t run the Coffeeneuring Challenge this year. Really, I was on the fence about it. While gratified to see the challenge grow over time, I was also concerned it would be too much to manage, especially the way my year has gone in other areas. Felkerino convinced me that I should run the Coffeeneuring Challenge in 2016, and said he would help in any … Continue reading Everyday Magic
The 2016 Coffeeneuring Challenge prize is about to be revealed, but before the grand unveiling, I’m featuring the man behind the excellent coffeeneuring designs of the past two years. Doug of umbrella works stepped forward last year to offer his skills in creating the Coffeeneuring Challenge patch prize, and we’ve been working together since. Many thanks to Doug for being part of coffeeneuring. His involvement … Continue reading The Coffeeneur Behind the Coffeeneuring Patch Designs: Doug of Umbrella Works
The Coffeeneuring Challenge allows for an appreciation of cycling different from the oftentimes more active spring and summer months. Slow down. Relax. Spend time with a friend and drink a cup of coffee (or similar). Such was the case with Michael and Chauncey – best friends and riding buddies – who took on last year’s challenge together in Cincinatti, Ohio. As Michael wrote in his submission: “We had … Continue reading Remembering Michael Prater: Cycling Fed His Soul, Coffee Fueled His Ride
Now in its sixth year, the Chasing Mailboxes Coffeeneuring Challenge is a relaxed cycling endeavor for people everywhere. If you like riding a bike and enjoy drinking coffee or tea (or even hot chocolate or cider), consider this challenge. In a nod to the French as well as randonneuring, the Coffeeneuring Challenge has its share of rules. Don’t let them intimidate you, though. As those who have successfully completed … Continue reading 6th Annual Coffeeneuring Challenge: The Spirit of Coffeeneuring
Last year’s Coffeeneuring Challenge introduced a new option for participants: the theme within a theme. The idea took off with quite a few, including Kathy, the author and illustrator of today’s post. Kathy took on the theme of visual journaling, and the result is a vivid set of watercolor pieces Kathy painted during the course of the challenge. Many thanks to Kathy for today’s post! Remember, … Continue reading A Theme Within a Theme Coffeeneuring Rewind: Visual Journaling with Kathy
When the Coffeeneuring Challenge first began, I had no idea who would participate and what cities would be represented. Over the years, Pittsburgh has consistently emerged as the city with the most participants. Last year, Pittsburgh coffeeneurs put together a poster announcing the challenge, and also worked with a local bike shop to coordinate both a kickoff and a closing event. Curious about the Pittsburgh … Continue reading The Capital City of Coffeeneuring: Pittsburgh, PA
Time to make a couple of announcements for the coffeeneuring register. First, the 6th Annual Coffeeneuring Challenge is a go for 2016. If you want to keep your official coffeeneuring streak alive, or if you want to give the challenge a whirl for the first time, the time for action is soon. The 2016 Coffeeneuring Challenge will take place from October 7-November 20. Next, if you would like … Continue reading Coffeeneuring 2016: Save the Date and Rules Comment Period
Do you ride your bike to drink coffee or tea? Or even hot chocolate? Do you not care about rules, or perhaps not care for rules? Are you in training for the upcoming 2016 coffeeneuring season (coming soon, dates being decided by committee as we speak!). If the answer to any of these questions is yes, then perhaps you should consider joining the Always Be Coffeeneuring … Continue reading The Always Be Coffeeneuring Club
After five years in existence, the Coffeeneuring Challenge is becoming a fall tradition. For most of us, coffeeneuring never truly stops, but there is something especially enticing about the cool fall air, crunchy leaves under our wheels, and rides to coffee (or other coffee-ish) beverages with friends. This year, I talked with people in a couple of cities about their coffeeneuring exploits. The first is … Continue reading Coffeeneuring is Coming: An Inside Look at Coffeeneuring in Milwaukee
Do you know if you don’t spell “coffeeneuring” regularly, that it becomes very difficult to spell? The same is true of the practice of coffeeneuring. If you don’t ride your bike to coffee regularly, it is soon a lost art to the individual. That’s why it’s important to Always Be Coffeeneuring (patch coming soon, courtesy of umbrella-works design stay tuned!). Recently I’ve had the pleasure of talking with … Continue reading If You Go Out in the Woods Today… #Coffeeoutside Coffeeneuring with Jay
Even though the official Coffeeneuring Challenge won’t be back until the fall, for many, coffeeneuring never stops. And for some of us, bicycles and coffee are a way of life. Sarah – a barista, bike rider, and member of BikeDC – completed the challenge for the third time this past October. Given the unique place that bikes and coffee occupy in her sphere, I asked Sarah … Continue reading The Juxtaposition of Movement and Pause: Talking Bikes and Coffee With Sarah
Before we close the book on another year, though, I’d like to share a few coffeeneuring facts with you in the off-chance that someone decides to develop his or her own coffeeneuring trivia game. Continue reading “Coffeeneuring Challenge 2015: That’s a Wrap!”
‘Twas the night before Coffeeneurmas, and all through the house… As we all know, coffeeneuring is a season, not a day, and what a great season it’s been. This year, 247 people rode their bikes to the finishers circle, and 8 achieved Honorable Mention.
Finally, the time to announce the Finishers and Honorable Mentions for the 2015 Coffeeneuring Challenge has arrived. Thanks to everyone for their patience as I organized the submissions. Continue reading “Coffeeneuring Challenge 2015: Finishers and Honorable Mentions”
